ABOUT MY GAMES
...........................................
I Write web pages for a living, but it doesn't consume my life.
I have so many interests that sometimes it's hard to get interested
in the same thing day after day for 10 hours a day. So when I
find myself at work, bored, and uninspired, I use the web languages,
and web technologies to make little games. These games keep me
interested, and keep me sharp, but they also inspire creativity
that I can use on the job. It works out nicely. Some are cute,
and some are interesting. Some actually find there way into my
otherwise dull corporate designs.
I thought I may just post them, so here they are:

GAME 1: THE CUBE

...........................................
I achieved this effect by using JavaScript, and Cascading Style
Sheets. I used the style sheets to define two styles to apply
to the small squares. I defined the top, bottom, left, and right
borders, and background colors making them look either pushed
in, or out. Then I used Javascript to control which style to apply
based on the mouseover event. There is no mouseout event so the
style remains until you mouseover again.

GAME 2: THE FLASH

...........................................
This is a cool effect. It's created using simple Javascript
and some tricky photo editing techniques. The end result is
that the photo looks as if it reacts to the action of your mouse
pointer as it glides over parts of the photo. I'm not even going
to attempt to explain it first. Just take a look.
The secret is that there is actually over 12 separate photos,
not 1.

GAME 3:
WATER [click to see the game]
...........................................
This is a very cool effect. Perhaps the coolest I have seen.
It's a JAVA applet that when applied to an image makes the images
surface to appear as if made of liquid. The applet itself was
written by a company called Darius. They sell it for $30. I
didn't buy it, it's on loan. That's why if you click the center
of the image, it takes you to the Darius web site.

GAME 4: FIREWORKS

...........................................
This is an applet that my friend Cybil found on the net one day.
There's really not much to it. I don't know who wrote the
actual JAVA for the applet itself. It's very cool though.
Take a look.

GAME 4: MAX
...........................................
This is a page that a young friend of mine (Max, age 14), and I wrote together.
My work (UPS) has a "bring your child to work day" every year. Max
is the son of my friend Gary at work. Max usually hangs out with me
in the web group for a while and we study web languages. He designed
this page himself, and I helped him work through getting it done. We
used simple JavaScript functions and lots of image editing in Macromedia's
"Fireworks" to produce the effects he wanted. The Guy's got imagination.
Take a look.
